So I've been a member of this tribe for quite sometime and unfortunately have just never had the opportunity to respond to someone "I live in the ocean". I know it will happen, just hasn't happened yet.

Last week I'm sitting around the house and my housemate of 9 years and I are chatting. I forget what I asked her. She just looked at me and said "I live in the ocean".

Hu. It's funny. I've been all over this crazy planet, and people always want to know where I'm from... where am I from? Where is that crazy dreadlock from? WHere are you from?????!!!!!!!!!!! Do you just KNOW everyone you talk to, or are you so much like everyone around you that they don't question. I go visit the area I had my primary education in, and they say "Where are you from?" I go visit my birthplace and they say "Where are you from?" There is no one who can mistakenly think that I come from where they are, unless I'm in the middle of the ocean. I have the chance constantly to say "I live in the ocean."

It really baffels people. They can't relate unless they've been a pirate/sailor/mermaid themselves.
    Try this, Bobzilla,
Design a day, and an entry into conversations, where people will constantly ask you, "Where are you from?" It is even possible to elicit this response by asking someone first, "where are you from?" It's not the best way, but it is A way to meet people, and usually, people will also ask you. Just keep trying. Maybe it's best if you don't ask wheree are you from, but instead, look like you are not from where you are, or seem confused and ask directions or talk in a funny accent. I, unfortunatly, don't have to pretend any of these things.
